 Post #1 Topic Interests:

I am a senior with just one more semester left after this fall before I graduate here at Utah Tech. I have grown to love technical writing and I also realize how much I have to learn about professional and technical writing. I am excited to learn and grow in this class.

On behalf of topics for a research proposal, I have had a difficult time coming up with different ideas. Something that does interest me is the arrangement and format of words in document design and its impact on rhetoric. What makes the information of an infographic memorable or forgettable? It is just an idea I have that has always stood out to me in my other classes dealing with technical writing.

  1. Hi Taela,

I really love the idea of studying the rhetoric of Infographics because of its relevance, timeliness, and ubiquity, not to mention the topic itself is so rife with possibilities. Should you choose to pursue this subject for research, I'd say right now it is approved! =))

At any rate, start plowing through some scholarly articles to distill your interest further (I'll also introduce the Lit. Review writing assignment #1 next week for this purpose). Once you're ready to start your research design -- whether rhetorical analysis, qualitative, or other types of research method -- let me know and maybe we can set a brief conference to talk about it, ok? Am here.... =))

Blog #5

I have learned that when it comes to designing a sound research study it is important to understand the strengths of all of the different types of research. Each of them serve different areas of research better than another but I enjoyed learning more about them and then picking what seemed like the best type of research would be for me and my proposal. I have also learned a lot more about the role that a literature review plays in a research proposal. Another thing that I have learned that helps provide a sound research study is simplicity in structure of your proposal and how usability tests can play a part in your research as well.  These processes have taught be that it is important to always build upon an outline and remain specific, it keeps the proposal organized and clear for the reader.  I've enjoyed the things I have learned in this class and Dr. B has always pushed me to try outside of my comfort zone in being a disciplined writer. Good luck and great job to e...

Blog #4 Pans for Revision

I need to better refine the outline of my research proposal so that it will be easier for me to compose all the components. I then plan on developing that part of my proposal and making the necessary changes for the literary review. I had a lot of comments on organization and sentence restructure that I can apply in my writing. I also want to add more extensive synthesis to my paragraphs to help better utilize my sources in my writing. Then after all of that, I can put those things together! I plan on meeting with Dr. B to get some advice!
