My research on infographics and the effect of design principles on a reader's retention has a lot of great sources that provided information on the efficiency of infographics and elements of graphic design. In one of the studies I read through from Clemson, they had performed an experiment entirely on the principle of repetition and color and memory of users. They mentioned the gap in being able to really place how each user responds to those design principles and how that may interfere with accurate measurement of remembering the information they obtained. I think it may be hard to determine other influences of the skill of memory that depends on the individual because there are different levels of retention from person to person.
My topic for my research proposal is the effectiveness of academic infographics and by the analyzing the use of design principles for users. Hey Taela this is a good blog post. I think you're right about the gap in your research and about how hard it may be to actually research it. Maybe look at other methods of how they measured memory skills or look for other gaps in your research.
ReplyDeleteUser response is an incredibly important part of design!! Its interesting that this was a gap in research. I think that the response aspect DEFINITELY makes a difference, you should find a way to gather the info to fill the gap!
ReplyDeleteHi Taela,
ReplyDeleteI liked that you mentioned that it is hard to determine outside influences because it does depend on the individual. I know when I am trying to memorize certain things, I tend to memorize differently depending on the subject. It's hard to choose one method. So, I understand where the possible gap could be.
Hey Taela! I think this is a great blog post. User response plays such an important role in design. I think that the topic could be difficult to research, but if you found a way the information could be incredibly beneficial!
